As the festive season descends, historic railways on the Welsh Borders get set to welcome a very special guest
Santa Claus will be taking time out of his busy schedule this festive season to ride the rails at several historic railways on the Welsh Borders.
Starting up in North Wales, Llangollen Railway will welcome the man in red every weekend between 2nd and 24th December – as well as the 22nd of the month – for its Santa Specials.
The decorated steam train will head through the scenic Borders countryside, while Santa hands out gifts to youngsters, and adults enjoy some tasty festive treats.
Heading south into Powys, the big guy will use a little bit of seasonal magic to appear on the Santa Trains at Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway on various dates between 9th and 18th December. Fantastic for families, kids will get the chance to meet Father Christmas during their journey, plus all passengers will get a mince pie and a drink.
Meanwhile, in Shropshire, the Severn Valley Railway (pictured) will host its own series of Santa Steam Specials on weekends between 2nd and 24th December.
Travelling to Santa’s grotto, kids can let him know what they’d like to see under their Christmas tree, before receiving a pressie. Families can also get into the seasonal swing on the railway’s Christmas Carol Trains. Taking place on every Saturday during the month, each day will see a live performance from a different local group.
Last but not least, the Brecon Mountain Railway will be getting into the Yuletide spirit from 25th November to 23rd December. After journeying to Santa’s grotto, kids and adults both will receive presents, plus they can partake in some seasonal snacks, too.
