Plans have been submitted to refurbish the entrance to the historic Royal Pier in Aberystwyth. The 153-year-old pier – a focal point of the Ceredigion town’s Victorian seafront – hasn’t had any significant work done to it since the 1980s, but now the owners want to bring it back to its heyday.

They’ve sent plans to Ceredigion Council, saying they’d like to restore the entrance sympathetically to the pier’s heritage, and that this is just one of several plans to upgrade the facility.

Built in 1865 by Eugenius Birch, Royal Pier was Wales’ first pleasure pier, but has suffered at the hands of severe storms over the years.
