The last few months have been tough on local businesses, but with innovation and the support of their community, Harry's Bistro on Anglesey is one of many who are finding ways to stay open
It’s March 2020. And as a glorious spell of spring sunshine begins, the outlook couldn’t be gloomier. Like all of us, Simon and Nia Doyle, who run Harry’s Bistro on Anglesey, watch the increasingly depressing Daily Briefings on the pandemic. It’s not long before they learn that their restaurant – along with all others across the UK – will have to close, immediately.
But with the news that takeaways are allowed to open, they decide to offer their famous Sunday roasts each week and arrange a delivery and takeaway service.
“The response was remarkable,” explains Simon. “Our Sunday lunches have become so popular in Beaumaris over the years, and we’d like to thank our customers for continuing to support us.” Indeed, the Sunday lunches were so successful that Harry’s began a Friday Supper Club, too.
“We wanted to do something in the community so customers can still enjoy restaurant food in their own homes,” adds Simon. “We have of course fully complied with the government guidelines on managing the risk of Covid-19, introducing health and safety measures specific to our premises.
“We all trust there are better times around the corner and we’re looking forward to reopening our restaurant and welcoming our friends and customers back again.”
Initiative and a loyal customer base has helped to ensure that Harry’s is making it through the tough times, and with travel restrictions being eased, they’ve now extended the takeaway service to be available from Tuesdays to Saturdays, with deliveries on Sundays for those who are staying in the Beaumaris area.
