A hand-woven traditional Welsh blanket can brighten up your home and keep you cosy all year round
There’s nothing better than snuggling up on the sofa under a soft, woollen blanket and if it’s traditionally hand-made in Wales, it makes the experience even more special. Pembrokeshire based FelinFach produce blankets, throws and scarves that are hand-woven only at Welsh mills and are a great gift for Mother’s Day, birthdays and Christmas.
All the blankets are hand woven from 100% new Welsh wool and vary in design, size and weight, from heavyweight double weave reversible blankets to the traditional honeycomb weave blankets and knee rugs.
As an example the Pen Parc blanket (pictured above) is made from soft and warm traditional double cloth and is reversible. It is then hand finished with a long-purled fringe. It costs £199.99 and is 180 x 145 cm and weighs 1.0kg.
And if you like the look of these products, but would prefer to make your own, you can attend one of FelinFach’s craft courses at their mill in the Preseli Hills, near Newport, Pembrokeshire. The craft courses are a hands-on learning experience using ancient dyes and pure Welsh wool and are suitable for complete beginners and those with some experience. You will receive plenty of personal tuition, as there is just one tutor and a maximum number of four students, and you can take home the samples you make.
