A charming and quirky barn conversion benefiting from a private, secluded location and large garden, yet surprisingly handy for popular market towns

If you’re looking for a homely, characterful house with privacy and space, you may want to take a look at this adorable barn conversion.

The current owners of The Smithy, near the hamlet of Aylton, have been hard at work bringing the property up to a high standard while retaining original features.

Access is along a shared driveway, which leads to three properties. There’s space for several vehicles at the front, and entry to the house is via one of two stable doors – one leading to the kitchen, the other to the living room.

Head through the door into the kitchen and you’ll be greeted by a light-filled room with a sitting area, breakfast bar and numerous facilities, including integrated fridge and dishwasher, plus a stainless steel range cooker and black granite work surfaces.

From here a hallway leads through to a sitting room with dual aspect windows offering plenty of natural light, as well as wooden ceiling beams and wall framing that give the room traditional character.

Wander upstairs to the open landing, from where there’s access to the bedrooms and bathroom.

Both bedrooms have exposed beams, giving them a charmingly unique look – the first is dual aspect with views over the garden, while the second has a Velux roof window.

The family bathroom, meanwhile, has been stylishly put together and features a bath with tongue and groove panelling, plus a separate shower with glass screen.

Outside, there’s a gorgeous patio on which to relax on those summer afternoons (they’re just around the corner – we promise!). The rest of the garden is sizeable and mostly lawned with mature trees offering shade and privacy.

The property may feel pleasantly removed from the hustle and bustle of city life, yet it’s usefully situated within touching distance of several market towns. The nearest is the pretty town of Ledbury – known for its black and white timber-framed buildings, and adorned with cafes, restaurants and independent shops.

Hereford, meanwhile, is the nearest city, being less than half an hour’s drive away. And if you need to travel further afield, the M50 is also nearby and offers easy access to the West Midlands and the southwest of England.

If you’re looking for that little hideaway in the country offering space, tranquillity and its own unique charm, The Smithy may be just what the doctor ordered.
