White Lodge, Nr Tenby, Pembrokeshire

A home you’d expect to find in the Spanish hills, this exotic property – featuring archways, chandeliers and landscaped gardens – is designed for luxury living

There are some properties that compel you to double take. With its archways, terracotta tiles and exotic trees, White Lodge is certainly one of these, if only to check it’s really to be found on Wales’ south coast.

The four-bedroom home, on the outskirts of the ever-popular and beautiful town of Tenby, is a masterclass of what’s known as ‘hacienda’ style – that of a grand Spanish estate.

And it seems every aspect of the property is designed for fine living, whether you’re a gardening aficionado, a horse lover, a keen al fresco diner, a fitness fanatic... or an expert relaxer!

The house itself is in a U-shape around a garden and patio area. Inside, the entrance hall includes an ornate pine mantelpiece. Off this is a lounge with a chandelier, an arched alcove and French doors leading to the central patio.

The kitchen has a selection of topnotch appliances, including electric Aga, two NEFF integrated ovens and a Whirlpool American-style fridge/freezer. There’s also space here for casual dining while overlooking the courtyard through an attractive arched window. For formal dining and entertaining, there’s a spacious room featuring a wall of windows and French doors offering ample natural light.

A stone archway leads from here to the living room, from where there are views to the gardens, plus French doors leading to a south-facing patio.

Also on the ground floor is the first of the bedrooms, with built-in wardrobes, wall lamps, a dressing room, plus an en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower and clam-shaped hand basin.

There are three more bedrooms upstairs, two of which have French doors leading onto a veranda overlooking the central courtyard. Also on the first floor, there’s a landing with chandelier, plus a bathroom with underfloor heating, Jacuzzi bath and a shower featuring body jets.

A covered walkway leads to what’s described as the recreation wing. This includes a deep indoor pool with a handpainted mural and underwater lights.

There’s also a sauna and a large games room, currently used for snooker (a floor hatch leads from here down to a wine cellar). Also on the property is a barbecue room with central firepit and chimney, five stables with power and water, a tennis court, pond, stream, orchard, and a helipad (for those who prefer to avoid the traffic!).

In addition, there’s planning permission to build a bungalow on the property, with its own entrance to maintain the privacy of White Lodge. If you have an eye for style and fine living in equal measure, then you should certainly have a look around this extraordinary Pembrokeshire home.
