Few things in life are more uplifting than the cheerful hues of spring wildflowers, and Wales’ coastline is especially blessed by these carpets of colour.
Some areas, such as the Pembrokeshire coast, are internationally famous for their displays in spring and early summer, but most stretches of the Welsh coastline have splashes of floral interest if you know where to look. And you’ll see different species as you traverse a range of habitats - such as these three we’ve picked out.
Enjoy the sights, but don’t be tempted to take the plants home. Apart from it being illegal, these specialised coastal flowers are unlikely to survive outside their natural environment.
