Idyllic Welsh Border wedding venue Garthymyl Hall is keeping the dreams alive

When the Prime Minister announced that in putting the United Kingdom in lockdown he'd be banning all weddings and social events, a lot of people’s heart sank. As with many businesses in the hospitability sector, Garthmyl Hall was just gearing up for the busy spring wedding season.

The beautiful grade two listed Georgian house sits on the Powys and Shropshire border and welcomes couples to exclusively hire the entire house, grounds and additional accommodation for two nights to host their weddings. But the hall were forced to make the heart-breaking decision to close their doors throughout April, May and June this year, and keep an eye on the months ahead.

Owner Julia Pugh is determined to not cancel anyone’s wedding, however. “We really value our wedding couples and understand for them this is a horrible, uncertain time where the day they’ve been planning and saving for, for years, has now been put totally out of their control.

"As soon as we heard about the pandemic we wanted to make sure they knew we were there, we could chat with them personally and we wanted to reassure them they would have their amazing wedding at the hall… Maybe just at a later date.

"We’ve made a promise to all of our couples that, if their date has been effected we will work together with them to help postpone to a new date instead of cancelling.

"We know this is a very stressful and disappointing time for a lot of people, however our advice is please try not to lose sight of the reason you wanted to get married in the first place. Imagine the wedding you will have when this has blown over, the love and laughter with your favourite people around you, the dancing and the memories that you will all make.

"Rest assured, as soon as the limitations are lifted we will be back open for the best wedding season yet.”
