Take a break at one of Wales’ most idyllic camping getaways

Wales is home to some of the planet’s most picturesque hideaways, and with international travel restrictions bamboozling even the most eager of globe trotters, a home turf getaway is more appealing than ever. In fact, motorhome afficionados PaulCamper have recently released their pick of the UK’s best spots, and two are here in Wales.

Shell Island (pictured above) in Gwynedd makes a picturesque North Wales retreat. The campsite’s views encompass Cardigan Bay and the Snowdonia National Park. The beaches are ideal for shell seekers, wanderers and bird watchers, while water sports enthusiasts can take to canoes, dinghies and sailboards. Formerly a farm, Shell Island has 300 acres dedicated to camping, combining unspoilt countryside with coastal access – you can even take your pooch. Along with the pitches there are flats and chalets available with shops and eateries on site too.

Further south in Carmarthenshire meanwhile, there’s Dolaucothi Caravan and Motorhome Park. Enveloped by nature and within easy reach of the fascinating Dolaucothi gold mines, this National Trust haven makes for a serene escape, with wildlife aplenty. The Brecon Beacons are also nearby, offering a designated International Dark Sky Reserve for stargazers and hikers alike. Dolaucothi has 25 pitches, and dogs are welcome too.
