HOW TO VIEW OUR DIGITAL MAGAZINES

Welsh Border Life and Welsh Coastal Life are now published digitally and we thank-you for your interest in them. To ensure you receive the latest editions via email, subscribe free to our newsletter. You can do that here.

First things first. Getting to this stage, after the fallout of the pandemic, has been an incredibly tough road, and we thank all readers for their patience. We have been reduced from a small team to a micro team and our resources are scarce. However, we intend to do everything we can to help you on this new journey with us, and as well as hopefully being able to asnwer all your technical queries, we welcome all your comments on how you think we can improve this new digital experience.

Now for the technical stuff.

Our digital editions have been designed and optimised for viewing on any device or operating system, be it smartphone, tablet, desktop or laptop. However, for the best viewing experience, we highly recommend using Adobe Acrobat Reader. How you do this depends on your device and platform (ie Mac or Windows). So scroll down for the situation that applies to you...

VIEWING ON A DESKTOP COMPUTER OR LAPTOP

Recommended application: Adobe Acrobat Reader (FREE)

The first time you open the magazine via the link on this website, it will open in your web browser. While you can perfectly easily scroll through the magazine in this way - and use all the links provided to help you navigate around it - for a more magaziney feel, first save the file to your desktop.

Next, if you already have Adobe Acrobat Reader, ensure this is the default application for opening PDF files, or choose to open the file you have downloaded using Adobe Acrobat Reader.

If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download it FREE here. Once you have done so, ensure it is the default application for opening PDF files when prompted to do so.

Now, when you open your digital magazine, it will open in Adobe Acrobat Reader. When it does, go to VIEW in the menu across the top, and select FULL SCREEN MODE. This will display just the magazine in a nice clean way on your screen and you will be able to navigate around the magazine using all the links we have embedded into the file, as described below (see NAVIGATION).

To come out of FULL SCREEN MODE, press the escape button (esc) on the top left of your keyboard.

VIEWING ON A TABLET OR SMARTPHONE

iPHONE OR iPAD

Recommended applications: Apple Books (FREE) or Adobe Acrobat Reader (FREE)

These apps are available for downloading free via the App Store, an icon for which should be on the home screen of your device.

Once you have one of these apps installed, when you open the magazine via the link on this website, it will open in your web browser.

Now, look for the share button at the top or bottom of your screen (you may need to touch the screen or sscroll slightly to get it to appear). This is button looks like a square box with an arrow coming out of it. Tap on this and look for the red Acrobat icon or the orange Books icon. Tap on one of these and your magazine will open in that app.

If you are using Adobe Acrobat Reader, be sure to tap on the page icon in the tool bar at the top of the page (this looks like a page with the top right corner turned down). This will offer you view settings. Select SINGLE PAGE.

You will now have a full screen view of the magazine, you'll be able to swipe left and right on the pages, and you will be able to navigate around the magazine using all the links we have embedded into the file, as described below (see NAVIGATION).

NAVIGATION

Helping you around the magazine

There will be many ways to move from page to page within the magazine, depending on which app and platform you are using. On a smartphone, for example, you may swipe between pages, while on a desktop you might scroll to change pages, or use the arrow keys on your keyboard. However, all our pages have arrow icons in the bottom corners. Click or tap on these and they will take you to the previous or next page.

There are plenty of other links in the magazine to take you to different pages. For example, click or tap on any of the cover lines and you will be taken straight to that feature. In the Contents pages, all images and listings feature links to those pages, while similarly other pages cross-referred to within features and articles will have links in them.

External links are also embedded within the magazine. These will take you to web pages and extra material related to the content in the magazine (for example, our walking routes). Look for the mouse and finger icons in the magazine indicating added content and related material.

Finally, all website addresses in both the editorial pages and on all advertisements have links to those websites. Click on any web address and you will be taken to that page. Afterwards, just close your web browser to return to the magazine.

It has been an incredibly tough time for many of our advertisers, so please do check out their products and services via their websites. None of the links will commit you to anything, they are just purely for browsing. Call it online window shopping!
