Treat yourself to a family day out on a horse drawn boat trip along the historic Llangollen Canal
Horse drawn boat trips have been operating from Llangollen Wharf since 1884 and are one of the major attractions in the north Wales market town of Llangollen. Despite the Wharf’s long experience of operating as a major tourist attraction, the Covid pandemic has caused the company to look at every aspect of the operation and change some of the ways they operate.
It is now possible to book the 45 minute horse drawn boat trip online allowing control over numbers to ensure social distancing. The trip from Llangollen Wharf runs every 30 minutes at weekends, bank holidays and during the school holidays and every hour at other times. Experience real tranquillity as your boat is gently pulled by one of the gorgeous heavy horses.
The motor boat, which hosts two hour trips across the mighty Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, will also be running with reduced capacity to ensure social distancing can be maintained. These are one way trips and the ticket price includes a bus transfer. The trips will start running again as soon as restrictions on indoor entertainment are lifted and bookings can be made online.
Another change is the tea room, which now has significantly more outside space for customers to enjoy the views looking over the canal, town and river Dee. The menu has been improved to provide a larger range of breakfasts, light lunches, sandwiches, afternoon teas and a large selection of cakes and tray bakes, all made on the premises. It is now also possible to have afternoon teas to takeaway in a box. Plus various items from the menu can be provided to consume on the boat trips or day hire boats and afternoon teas and picnics for the day boats can also be ordered in advance.
All trips can be booked online at www.horsedrawnboats.co.uk or by ringing 01978 860702. This is also the number to book afternoon teas and picnics for the day boats.
