Margam Country Park and the Garden of Wales are two of Luminate’s locations for their winter light trails
Luminate have been creating sensory light experiences and magical trails around the country for many a year now, and Christmas is one of the highlights in their calendar.
A family experience to be enjoyed by young and old alike, their events make for a great alternative to date-nights for romantics (there have been five proposals at Luminate now!), let alone a magical family night out. Best of all, there are two locations to choose from in Wales.
At Margam Country Park near Neath in South Wales, the winter light trail meanders through the gardens and around Margam Castle with stunning lighting elements and light play guiding you along the way to the backdrop of ambient music. The trail creates a sensory, atmospheric journey, with plenty of child-focused sections where kids can play with the installations and immerse themselves in the whole magical experience.
The entire trail has been carefully re-designed for 2022, retaining some of the previous year's highlights, but re-imagined to include new highlights to ensure 2022 is bigger and better than ever.
The trail at Margam is roughly a mile long and takes 60-90 minutes to complete, after which you can warm up by the fire pit, toast marshmallows and indulge in some of the hot food and snacks available from both the Courtyard cafe and the selection of street food traders, together with drinks and mulled wine from the huts along the route.
Meanwhile, Luminate are also set to descend on The National Botanic Garden of Wales in Carmarthenshire for the first time, where a captivating, illuminated mile-long trail of wonder and intrigue awaits. Again, the experience is set to ambient music, with interactive light play guiding you round the stunning gardens and grounds. And as with Margam Country Park, the trail takes 60-90 minutes to complete.
• The Margam Country Park winter trail is open nightly from Thursday 17th November until Monday 2nd January 2023. The Botanic Garden of Wales winter trail is open nightly from 1st December until Monday 2nd January 2023 (both venues closed Christmas Day). Entry times are from 4.30pm to 8pm, with tickets priced from £11 per child and £15 per adult (family tickets also available). For more information, visit luminate.live
